In 2020, the photographer Mark De Fraeye and Patricia Verburg donated their vast collection of ethnographic objects, photographs and publications to the King Baudouin Foundation. The collection, which is notable both for its richness and its diversity, has now been entrusted to four partner museums in Belgium, where it provides a unique perspective on traditional cultures from across the world.
The publication Ethnography & Photography. The De Fraeye-Verburg Collection brings this remarkable heritage together for the first time: from ritual objects to striking images that give tangible form to contemporary themes such as globalisation, cultural change and identity.
Thanks to contributions from museums, researchers and anthropologists, readers can discover the many facets and stories that lay behind this exceptional donation.
An inspirational work that beckons us to discovery, learning and reflection. More info / order the publication.
