The aim of this fund is to safeguard works of art that show the European dimension of Brussels. The fund has supported, for instance, research and restoration of the Passion Reredos, by Güstrow, one of the most prestigious Brabant altarpieces made in the 16th century. L’Homme de Tollund (Tollund Man), a magnificent portfolio by Hugo Claus and Serge Vandercam, has recently enriched the Michel Wittock Fund. The Bibliotheca Wittockiana was able to purchase the work with help from the Heritage Fund.
The art deco chalice donated to the King Baudouin Foundation in 2013 is on show at the M-Museum in Leuven, until 12 July 2015. This modern liturgical piece was designed by the Benedictine monk Dom Martin and made by the Maison Wolfers Frères.
The Eric Speeckaert Fund for the Study of Prince Charles-Joseph de Ligne’s Work has recently acquired an album of 13 etchings attributed to Charles, the eldest son of Prince Charles-Joseph de Ligne.
This portrait was for many years part of a private collection in Paris and so the general public had only rare occasions to enjoy it. Today, thanks to its purchase by the Heritage Fund, the work can be seen by everyone at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium.
