Description of coalmining

This manuscript is similar to the documents of the Coutumes de houillerie (Coalmining customs) which, from a legal standpoint, was formerly the reference work for mining activities. In addition to transcripts of key legislation, this manual contains a glossary of machines and operations, an alphabetical glossary of all the terms in use, the questionnaire used by inspectors, as well as the text of an oath that they were required to solemnly pledge.
