Archaeology in the Condroz. Two thousand years of life in our countryside

30th of April 2014

Winner of the 2010 Robert Beaujean Prize, awarded by the King Baudouin Foundation, the Archeolo-J Youth Service has mounted an exhibition in Namur showing the results of a vast survey that focused on the rural world of the Condroz Namurois region. Field archaeology, historical research, environmental and comparative studies enabled the team to examine two thousand years of life in the countryside.

Linked to the exhibition, a recently published book entitled Archéologie entre Meuse et Hoyoux (Archaeology between the Meuse and the Hoyoux) examines the subject through case histories. In two volumes, the book makes an assessment of the learning from the archaeological work, in the form of a retrospective, but also raises questions about the development of the countryside according to various expert opinions.

The Robert Beaujean Prize is an annual award open to any natural or legal person who makes a contribution to research in the fields of archaeology or history in Wallonia.
