Come and have a close look at Blaeu’s restored globes

13th of September 2013

After in-depth conservation and restoration work, supported by the Léon Courtin-Marcelle Bouché Fund, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, the celestial and terrestrial globes of Willem Janszoon Blaeu will be on show again in the Nottebohm Room of the Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library in Antwerp.

The two globes, each with a diameter of 68 cms, are among the largest ever made by Blaeu and bear witness to the progress made in cartography during the 17th century. On Sunday 15th September, visitors will have the opportunity to see these amazing globes in all their splendour and to find out more not just about the globes themselves, but also about their creator, the person who donated them and their restoration.
