Symposium: The return of ethnographic and non-European collections

20th of October 2014

The objective of the symposium is to raise awareness about the challenges faced by ethnographic collections. Legal perspectives regarding the return of objects will also be considered. The day will end with the presentation of a number of case histories, followed by a wide-ranging debate with museums, archive holders and collectors concerned by the subject.

ETHNOCOLL is a platform of Belgian institutions that hold ethnographic and non-European collections. Aspects such as restitution, collection visibility, research and training, restoration and conservation and collaboration with community resources will be discussed. ETHNOCOLL is an initiative facilitated by the not-for-profit FARO organisation, a Flemish interface for cultural heritage, and the King Baudouin Foundation
