Two wonderful pieces of jewelry created by renown 19th-century Belgian gold- and silversmiths are enriching our public collections. The Christian Bauwens Fund has acquired a brooch by Oscar Massin and a bracelet by Charles Buls. As of today you can admire them in all their glory at DIVA in Antwerp.
The Marcel Van Rooy – Élise De Smedt Fund has recently purchased a porcelain bust of the Prince-Bishop of Liege at the BRAFA. This 18th century work bears witness to the great portraiture talent and technical mastery of its sculptor.
Thanks to a donation from his widow, the works of Belgian painter Camille De Taeye is now preserved for future generations. The King Baudouin Foundation has entrusted this selection of his emblematic works to the Arthothèque of Mons. Get an exclusive viewing of them at the BAM from 23 March, in an exhibition on Surrealism.
We are proud to announce our silver tureen, a showpiece from Johannes Cornelius Hendrickx (1782), got a place of honor at DIVA. The decoration, which includes fruits, garlands of flowers and musical instruments, as well as the coating of arms of the De Meester family, must have been a source of wonderment around the table.
On January 12, Sven Gatz, Flemish Minister for Culture, Nabilla Ait Daoud, Deputy Mayor for Culture in Antwerp, and Thomas Leysen, chairman of the King Baudouin Foundation, unveiled the map of Utopia at the Plantin-Moretus Museum.
